Feedlot Waste Estimates
An average weight plus, annual throughput and days in the feedlot from the survey was used to calculate the wet and dry weight of the cattle manure using the following equation,
E=BxCxD/1000
Where, B = manure (kg/day) (wet or dry weight) C = yearly throughput of stock in feedlot D = days in feedlot E = total manure produced in one calendar year
Key information for the calculations was obtained on the relationships between animal weight and manure production (dry and wet weight) in feedlots. This was sourced from the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries webpage, manure production data. The web address for this data is,
