MODIS Fire Hotspots
Fire hotspots mapped daily from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor aboard the Aqua and Terra satellites. Fires are mapped from the 1 km resolution thermal channels of the satellite imagery. When compared to its surroundings a fire is detected on an image as an area of extraordinary high temperate, commonly called a fire hotspot. Factors such as cloud cover, vegetation canopy and satellite overpass extents will affect the detection of the fire hotspots. The margin of error for the location of a fhs is +/- 1 km.
