Oil Mallee Biomass
Estimates of the standing biomass resource was calculated using the Australian Government’s Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM 4.1.6.19417 [2016]) for the most common oil mallee species grown in the shires with the greatest area planted to oil mallee. Total_residues actually refers to total biomass and has need named this to allow further analytics.
To calculate standing biomass, the total above ground carbon mass (tC/ha) from the FullCAM model was produced for each species within selected shires. Because dry biomass is known to consist of approximately 50% carbon, the aboveground carbon mass value was doubled to give t dry matter above ground/ha), then multiplied by the total planted area for each species to get an estimate of standing biomass resource (tonnes dry matter above ground/ha) for each shire.
Oil Mallee data was provided by the Oil Mallee Association of Australia (OMA). For more detailed information on volumes of biomass available in specific locations, please contact Simon Dawkins simon.dawkins@oilmallee.org.au
