VIIRS Fire Hotspots
Two separate algorithms are used to detect fire hotspots using the VIIRS sensor; The NFHS (375m) and the LFHS (375m-I04 channel), the NFHS is the global detection algorithm, based on the paper by Schroeder, W., Oliva, P., Giglio, L., and Csiszar, I.A. (2014). The new VIIRS 375m active fire detection product: algorithm description and initial assessment. Remote Sensing of the Environment 143, 85-96 and the LFHS is one that has been developed by Landgate, based on a paper by Lee and Tag (1990) but parameterised for local conditions.
